The picturesque karst cave—the lair of the legendary Wawel Dragon—is one of Wawel Hill’s more curious features. The route follows 81 meters of the cave’s total 270 meters of corridors and exits onto the Vistula Boulevards next to the “fire-breathing” Wawel Dragon, a statue by Bronisław Chromy (1972). If a family discount is used, parents/guardians should uncheck item No. 8 "OTHER" when selecting the status eligible for the discount.

The exhibition of Łukasz Stokłosa’s paintings at Wawel Royal Castle will showcase paintings in which the artist discusses the topic of the monarchy history in Early Modern Europe. Stokłosa has a habit of ‘telling’ the story of rulers who passed away a long time ago through objects that belonged to them: coronation insignia and coats, carriages, armours, and interiors of their residences as well as surrounding gardens. The elegiac reflection resonating from his works results, on the one hand, from the choice of topics, and on the other from the way in which they are painted. Stokłosa experiments with the ‘sfumato’ effect, i.e. soft chiaroscuro transitions, achieving on his canvases the impression of viewing the precious objects depicted on them as if through a fog or smoke, or perhaps – as he seems to suggest – painting in rooms lit only by candlelight. The artist wants the Wawel exhibition to include not only works referring to the history of Poland, but also, through the complicated net of alliances and royal marriages, to the history of other dynasties, shaping the picture of the world back then.

The Royal Gardens were reconstructed based on years of study and research on Renaissance gardens. The plants used and arrangements of pathways and beds as well as architectural elements evoke the atmosphere of gardens of the period. The gardens encompass an upper and lower terrace and a small vineyard. If the weather will be bad gardens could be temporarily closed.

One of the Wawel Castle’s three artillery towers. It was built in about 1460, during the reign of Casimir IV Jagiellon, to strengthen the defenses of the royal residence against attack from the most vulnerable, southern side.
